Psychological Trauma and it’s manifestations is such a complex animal. It is difficult to pick a place to start when talking about it. My intent is to choose topics that everyone faces and to help you understand that you are not alone when you have these issues. My hope is that this site will be informational and hopefully educational while providing a place to talk through issues that you face. I believe that a good place to start would be to talk about Why we cant talk about it.
The title of First Responder designates a very few job titles yet the trauma that comes from those incidents Responders encounter impacts thousands of unknowing individuals. It isn’t just the responder that suffers from the “Bad Call”, their significant other suffers, their children suffer, their extended family suffers, their friends feel the impact through behavior changes in their responder friend, even co-workers suffer though many avenues of impact. So with all that being said, where does one begin to address the root cause? In order to fix a problem that we face we have to identify what is broken. Those of us that have PTSI (Post Traumatic Stress Injury) and recognize that we indeed need assistance to manage it, have to ask a question. How do we fix it? How do we address what is broken when it is so shattered that you can barely see what it is that you are trying to put back together? Do you even remember what the original looked like. In fact, you may not think that person exists any more as you have been so lost in the turmoil that has become the new normal.
